We are a grassroots group of Boulder residents including airport neighbors, affordable housing advocates, and people who care about environmental and social justice. We have no ties to the development community and no financial stake in repurposing the airport. In contrast, many of the pro-aviation voices you may hear do have a direct financial interest in keeping BDU as an airport for their use.
For as long as the airport is operational, which looks to be at least through 2040, we are advocates for NOT TAKING FAA FUNDING so that city can work toward Local Control when existing grant assurances expire. With Local Control, airports have additional flexibility to regulate noise and pollution impacts. We look to the examples of Santa Monica Airport and Torrance Airport who are leading the way! We also continue to advocate for a speedy transition to unleaded aviation fuel, strengthening compliance with the airport noise abatement agreement, and other actions that will improve quality of life for Boulder residents.
